Boys Varsity Swimming, Girls Varsity Swimming · Swim team goes to the podium 3 times at state


The swim team had athletes on the podium three different times at the state swim meet in Canton.  Highlighting the list was Brooke Schuette, ’20 who placed 3rd in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:53.60.  It is believed this is the highest placing of any Wauseon swimmer at the state meet in school history.  Branden Arredondo, ’20 swam the 100 freestyle in 48.52 to place 8th and the girls 400 freestyle relay team of Brooke Schuette, ’20, Megan Carroll, ’20, Grace Rhoades, ’23, and Sarayna Russell, ’21 also placed 8th swimming in 3:43.06.

 

The team competed in nine different races in the prelims and advanced to the finals in all nine races.  Scoring for the Indians in the consolation races were:
Branden Arredondo, ’20 – 50 freestyle – 12th – 22.17
Brooke Schuette, ’20 – 500 freestyle – 9th – 5:04.14
Andy Scherer, ’22 – 500 freestyle – 13th – 4:55.29
Girls 200 free relay (Sarayna Russell, ’21, Maggie Duden, ’22, Megan Carroll, ’20, Grace Rhoades, ’23) – 15th – 1:42.46
Boys 200 free relay (Caden Case, ’21, J.T. Hutchinson, ’20, Andy Scherer, ’22, Branden Arredondo, ’20) – 16th – 1:31.51
Boys 400 free relay (Maddux, Chamberlin, ’21, J.T. Hutchinson, ’20, Andy Scherer, ’22, Branden Arredondo, ’20) – 16th – 3:21.41

 

 

The girls team finished 12th with 51 points while the boys team finished 29th with 24 points.
