Sydney Darnell

Sydney is the daughter of Brant and Robin Darnell. Sydney is one of the most accomplished swimmers in Wauseon High School history. She currently holds 5 school records – 3 individual records (the 50 yard freestyle, the 200 yard individual medley, and the 100 yard butterfly) and is part of 2 relay records (the 200 and the 400 yard freestyle relays). Sydney is an 11-time state placer with her highest finish occurring during her Junior year when she placed 5th in the 100 yard butterfly. She is a 16-time district placer with 3 championships and 6 runner-up finishes. (Being a 16-time placer is even more impressive when you consider that you can only be in 4 events for 4 years of high school – this means she was a District placer in every event, every year of competition) Sydney also earned the WHS Most Valuable Swimmer award 4 times during her career.

Sydney is a member of the Wauseon High School National Honor Society, an NWOAL Scholar-Athlete, a WHS Scholar-Athlete and currently has a cumulative grade point average of 3.95. She will be attending Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana this fall where she plans on double majoring in Psychology and Addictions Counseling. Sydney will also be a member of the Indiana Wesleyan swim team.

Kyle Vernot

Kyle is a 2-time state cross country qualifier as well as a 2-time regional placer. He was the District Cross Country Champion in 2017, the NWOAL Champion in 2016, and earned 1st Team NWOAL honors 2 times.

Kyle was a 5-time District Qualifier during his swimming career competing in the 200 and 500 yard freestyle races.

In the sport of track, Kyle is a 2-time State Qualifier competing in the 1600 meter run and the 4 x 800 meter relay. He is a 3-time Regional Placer and a 4-time District Placer including a winning a District Championship in the 3200 meter run in 2017. Kyle is a 5-time NWOAL Champion and a 4-time NWOAL Runner-up. This past week, Kyle was part of the 4 x 800 relay team that set a new school record.

Kyle is a three-time NWOAL Scholar Athlete, a WHS Scholar Athlete, and a member of the Wauseon High School National Honor Society. He has earned All-Ohio Academic honors 2 times in cross country and once, thus far, in track. Kyle is tied for 1st in his class with a cumulative grade point average of 4.0. He will be continuing his education and running career at the University of Dayton in the fall majoring in pre-dentistry with a minor in biology.
